Learning at Bright Blooms
Our Program
We follow Australia’s Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF V2.0). Our program grows from each child’s interests, abilities, culture and family, and from what children tell us they want to explore.
Children learn best through play, supported by educators who notice, respond and extend their thinking. Our educators plan intentional teaching in small and large groups, and children make real choices about their experiences and routines. Rooms are set up as learning zones, such as quiet corners, dramatic play, science and nature, construction, music, and arts and crafts, which change as children’s interests grow.
Each room has a Classroom Information Board with its weekly program and learning focus, and you can see the program in OWNA.
Getting Ready for School
School readiness starts long before Kielo, but our Senior Preschool year brings it together. Led by an early childhood teacher, Kielo builds the confidence, independence, friendships and early literacy and numeracy that help children feel ready for Kindergarten.
- Children help choose topics, from oceans to volcanoes and jungles, and their ideas are recorded as “Kielo Voices”.
- We talk with you about your child’s school, hopes and any worries, and prepare a NSW Transition to School Statement (with your written consent) to share with your child’s Kindergarten teacher.
- Lotus, our Junior Preschool, also prepares children for the move to school.
- We celebrate with a Preschool Graduation in December.
In NSW, children can start Kindergarten at the beginning of the year if they turn 5 on or before 31 July that year, and must be enrolled in school by their 6th birthday. NSW school enrolment.
Inclusion and Culture
Every child and family belongs at Bright Blooms. Music, movement, stories, art and the languages of our families are part of everyday experiences. We work with families, and with your child’s therapists when you agree, to support every child’s development, using the Inclusion Support Program and visual supports such as picture routines when they help.
If English is not your first language, we can arrange an interpreter through TIS National (131 450) for important conversations.
Our Culture, Community and Celebrations Calendar includes Lunar New Year, Harmony Day, Holi, Eid al-Fitr, Easter, Diwali and Christmas, National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week, Book Week, Science Week, Children’s Week and Grandparents Day. Taking part is always optional, no child is left out, and we never use costumes or stereotypes to represent a culture.
Excursions, Visitors and Play Spaces
- Walking excursions to nearby Gore Hill Oval and Gore Hill Park, each with a risk assessment and your permission.
- Visitors such as a First Nations music and storytelling workshop, a dental health visit, and NSW Health’s StEPS vision screening for 4-year-olds.
- A shaded outdoor playground with a bike track, slide, sandpit, gardens and a cubby house.
- Our indoor gym with ride-on cars and a climbing wall for active play in any weather.
- A family library in our foyer where you can borrow books to read at home.
Caring for Our Environment
Children sort recycling into the right bins, plant seeds and herbs in our garden, reuse materials in their play and art, and join events such as World Cleanup Day. Caring for Country and our environment is one of our core values.
